About Custom Vinyl Playlist
What is a Custom Vinyl Playlist?
It’s a real, playable vinyl record that features your favorite songs/audio and your own custom artwork — a truly personal keepsake that turns memories into music. Each record is made to order and crafted just for you (or your special someone).
How does it work?
First, choose your vinyl size, 7" or 12", depending on how much audio you want to include. Then select your style, whether classic black, a solid color of your choosing, or our full-color picture disc, which is our #1 best seller.
Second, add your audio files.
Third, add your artwork. This can be as simple as uploading a photo from your phone or any custom artwork you've created.
What makes this different from other "personalized" gifts?
We focus on story-driven personalization — not just printing a design on vinyl, but creating a gift that truly feels meaningful. Where else can you bring your memories to life by combining both the sights AND sounds that make up the story you have with that special someone?
Each record is made from high-quality materials, fully playable, and proudly hand-crafted in the USA.
Who is this for?
Our records make unforgettable gifts for anniversaries, weddings, birthdays, Valentine’s Day, and any other milestone moment. They’re especially popular among people who want to give something more emotional and lasting than the usual “stuff.”
Can I see examples of finished records?
Absolutely. You can see real examples from customers on our website, product pages, and reviews. You might even get a few creative ideas for your own design! Also, our Record Builder will show you a live preview of what YOUR record will look like as you put it together.
Who's behind this company?
We're John and Rebecca, the founders of Custom Vinyl Playlist. We're a husband and wife team and a small family business in the Chicago area.
Music & Audio
How many songs can I add?
You can include up to 14 minutes of audio on a 7” record (7 minutes per side) and up to 40 minutes on a 12” (20 minutes per side). As you add songs, our Record Builder will show you how much time you have left on each side.
Can I use songs from places like Spotify or Apple Music?
You can upload any songs you’ve purchased from places like the iTunes Store, Amazon, and others — as well as any audio files you already have, such as voice recordings, vows, and toasts.
Streaming services like Spotify and Apple Music don't let you actually purchase and own songs, so most users use the iTunes Store or Amazon instead.
If you’re on a mobile device, the easiest thing to do is purchase and download songs from Amazon.com, watch this video to see how. (Note that songs downloaded from the iTunes Store can’t be uploaded directly from your phone because of Apple’s iOS permissions. For those iTunes Store tracks, you’ll just need to switch to a computer to download your files and then complete your uploads, see below.)
If you’re on a computer, you have more options because you can use audio files downloaded from pretty much any service, plus files saved elsewhere — like Google Drive, Dropbox, or your desktop — just upload the files from wherever they're saved right into your record. It’s quick and easy, watch this video to see how.
We can accept WAV, WMV, AAC, MP3, and M4A file formats.
By uploading your audio, you’re agreeing to our Terms of Service.
Can I preview my playlist before ordering?
Yes — you can arrange your song order and double-check everything within our Record Builder so you know exactly what your record will look and sound like.
Artwork & Design
Can I upload my own artwork and/or photos?
Definitely! Upload any image that represents your story — a favorite photo, album cover design, or even a handwritten note. Our upload tool supports JPG/JPEG, PNG, PDF, and HEIC files.
What artwork dimensions and formats will look best?
We print in super high-quality 300DPI. If it looks good on your device, it should look good printed. We'll reach out to you if we think there's a problem with your art.
When you upload your art in our Record Builder, you'll have the opportunity to crop it for a perfect fit. And, if you want to ensure the highest quality and most accurate reproduction, submit your art with these square dimensions:
- 12" Record Cover width and height: 3675 pixels or 12.25 inches
- 12" Picture Disc image/photo/art width and height: 3540 pixels or 11.8 inches
- 12" and 7" Inner Label width and height: 990 pixels or 3.3 inches
- 7" Record Cover width and height: 2185 pixels or 7.3 inches
- Keep in mind that inner labels and picture disc images are circular, so the corners of your square images will be cut off. You can see what it looks like framed in the Record Builder.
We accept images and photos in JPG/JPEG, PNG, PDF, and HEIC file formats.
Can I edit my photos/images?
Yes. In our Record Builder tool, you'll have the ability to crop your images so you'll know what they'll look like on the final product.
How is the print quality?
Our print quality is amazing. We don't use stickers or paper overlays. Instead, we print in super high-resolution 300DPI, which means that you get vibrant, permanent color that won’t peel or fade.
Can I include a custom message or note?
Yes, we can print whatever you submit directly on the Record Cover, Inner Labels, and even on our Picture Discs. So, if you want to submit custom artwork with text or custom messages, you can do that.
Record Options & Quality
Are your records actually playable?
Yes! All our records are fully playable on standard turntables and sound great, even the Picture Disc. They’re not just for display — they’re real lathe-cut records.
What’s the difference between the 12” and 7” options?
12" records can hold up to 40 minutes worth of audio, 20 minutes on each side.
7” records can hold up to 14 minutes worth of audio, 7 minutes on each side.
How is the sound quality and playability?
These are genuine records that play beautifully. Each is hand-cut, not factory-pressed, which gives it an authentic, warm vinyl sound. You may hear the classic pops and crackles that make vinyl feel nostalgic and timeless. The volume is about 1dB quieter than a pressed record and, unless you know exactly what 1dB sounds like and you're an audiophile doing a back-to-back comparison with a studio-pressed album on an amazing home stereo, you won't hear a difference (and even then it will be hard to know which is which).
Do I need a record player to enjoy it?
Not at all. Many customers buy them as beautiful display pieces. And, if you do have a turntable, it makes the experience even more special.
Production, Shipping, and Timing
How long does it take?
We make these by hand one-by-one, so standard turnaround is 10–14 business days.
Sometimes we have longer processing times, often around holiday periods.
Need it sooner? Rush processing is available after you check out.
Can I rush my order?
Yes. We always do all we can to get your record to you as fast as possible. To help with that, we offer various shipping options.
In addition, although we sometimes have longer processing times during holiday periods, we do offer rush processing to help you "cut the line", when available.
Do you ship internationally?
At this time, we only ship within the continental United States. We are working to expand our delivery to other countries.
Can I ship directly to the person I’m gifting it to?
Yes. When you check out, you can designate between who's paying for it and where it should ship to.
How is the record packaged?
Each record is carefully hand-packed in a protective sleeve and sturdy mailer to ensure it arrives safely. The mailer is a generic box that doesn't display what it is, in case the gift recipient may also be at the shipping address.
Orders, Returns, & Support
What if I need to make changes or if something isn't perfect?
We put your record into production usually within a few hours of your order submittal, so it may or may not be possible to make changes.
There's no risk with us because we guarantee every record. If yours isn’t flawless, you can either get a refund or we'll make you another for free.
Can I cancel my order?
Orders can only be canceled before production begins, since each record is made custom to your design. We typically start production on your order within hours, so the cancellation window is generally short.
Can I get a refund?
Yes. With our "I Love It!" Guarantee, you'll receive a flawless record or we'll offer you the choice of getting a refund or having us recreate another for free.
How can I contact you?
You can reach us anytime at support@customvinylplaylist.com as well as through various forms and chatboxes on our site.
